About AI Registry
AI Registry is a curated directory of Australian AI companies, with a focus on data sovereignty and verified local presence. It's run by one person, in Australia, for Australian buyers.
Why this site exists
Most AI vendor directories are global. They bury Australian companies under thousands of US and Indian listings, and none of them surface what AU buyers actually need to know: is the vendor Australian? Where is my data stored? Are they procurement-ready?
The closest local alternatives are ecosystem reports from the Tech Council of Australia, StartupAus Crossroads, and the National AI Centre. These are useful but not filterable, not claimable, and not focused on procurement signals.
AI Registry is the gap-filler. Filterable. Verified against public records. Honest about what it is.
Who runs it
Brett Armstrong
Editor and curator
Co-founder and SEO strategist at Armstrong Creative, a Berwick-based SEO agency in Melbourne. Has been doing digital marketing since 2000, before the term existed. Past and current clients include Tangerine Telecom and RedRock Venues alongside a mix of Australian SMBs.
Uses AI tools every day across client work: Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Notion. Built AI Registry because Australian buyers need a way to find local AI vendors that keep data onshore, and nothing existing surfaced that signal cleanly.
Not an AI engineer. Not an AI-vendor consultant. Editorial scope reflects that: hands-on reviews of tools actually used, plus interview content where the credibility lives with the people interviewed.
How listings are added
Three ways:
- Editor-seeded. The first 100+ listings were added manually from public sources: CSIRO and National AI Centre ecosystem reports, StartupAus, LinkedIn, Built In Melbourne and Sydney lists.
- Submitted. Companies can submit themselves via the submit page. Submissions are reviewed before publishing.
- Claimed. If your company is already listed, you can claim the profile to update your own information.
Every listing is checked against the public verification standard before badges are issued.
How it's funded
At launch, every listing is free. There is no paid placement at this stage. The site is funded out of pocket and runs on a small VPS that costs less than a streaming subscription per month.
Eventually some listings will be marked Featured for a fee. Featured placement does not change the verification process. Verified is verified, paid or not.
What AI Registry is not
- Not a review site. There are no five-star ratings on listings.
- Not a comprehensive database. Curated, not exhaustive.
- Not endorsing every listed company. Verification is desk-check, not audit.
- Not affiliated with the National AI Centre, CSIRO, StartupAus, or any government body.
